Flagstaff

Flagstaff Arizona is located in Northern Arizona with an elevation of about 6,500 feet.  It’s home to Northern Arizona University, Heritage Square, the Weatherford Hotel, the Monte Vista, the First Friday Art Walk, hiking, the Arizona Snow Bowl, the Forest Service, Native American ruins, museums, golf courses and a thriving community. Take a ride to the “high country” and plan to experience the golf courses, or hike Mt. Eldon, then plan on a great dinner at one of the local restaurants:  The Cottage Place, Monsoons, Cuvees, Brix, and an old favorite, Busters.  Experience Macy’s for your European Coffee spot.

Flagstaff has some of the best restaurants in Northern Arizona, and many of we Sedonans will drive north to enjoy an evening out with friends.

Summer in Flagstaff is something everyone should experience.

For those of you who are interested, Flagstaff is a very popular second home community.  Phoenicians and Tusconians, Californians… all enjoy the beautiful, dry mountain summers.  Golf, hiking, reading, writing, taking a summer course at NAU… trips to Lake Powell, house-boating…  Flagstaff is the hub to many summer activities.

For skiers, the Snow Bowl is awesome and only hours from Phoenix, less than an hour from Sedona…

For golfers, Continental Country Club offers public golf on a course that Kathy Howe has played since 1970.  It’s worth the drive and the day.

Flagstaff is home to the Lowell Observatory and, yes, it was the world’s first international dark sky city.

Many people believe that Flagstaff is the gateway to the Grand Canyon, while others prefer to begin their trek to the Grand Canyon from Sedona.  Both fulfill the visitor’s desire to have a great experience.  Each offers the visitor a unique experience:  Flagstaff offers the “downtown” walk through history, while Sedona offers the Red Rocks and jeep tours.

Put Flagstaff on your “must-do” list.

You should plan a trip from Sedona up SR89A, through Oak Creek Canyon, up the “switchbacks”, past Forest Highlands, and enjoy summer in the high country.  Or fly into Pulliam Field.  US Airways has many flights to and from Flagstaff.  The airport is just South of Flag, off I-17, a little over half an hour from Uptown Sedona.  Many Sedona residents use this airport with free parking for their travel hub.
